Ghosts On The Battlefield: Haunted History In America
In every conflict, there are rumors of ghosts that linger. Lives are cut short, and many are said to remain, wanting to finish what they have started, or destined to continue the bloody conflict in which they were engaged in when they were killed.
Although there are many places throughout the world where these ghosts are said to exist, there are few as active as those who are said to inhabit the battlefields from the American Civil War. The bloody conflict raged from 1860–1865, and pitted brother against brother — tearing families and states apart in the process.
Although the Civil War eventually ended, when the South surrendered, there are many places where both Union and Confederate soldiers are still seen — still wandering through the battlefields and seemingly searching for something. Others are destined to replay the battle over and over again, continuously running against their enemy, trying for the rest of eternity to win the day and take the field.
There are a few battlefields that stand out from others, and these have been investigated as much as is possible, and there are quite a few books available as well. From little oddities to ghost stories, and even the occasional true story that has been passed down from family to family, these many tales have kept the memory alive.
